Master advanced airway management and regional anesthesia techniques through immersive, hands-on training. This small-group course provides emergency medicine and critical care clinicians with practical experience in flexible scope laryngoscopy, awake intubation, and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks to improve patient safety, procedural confidence, and clinical outcomes.
Course Overview
This immersive, hands-on workshop is designed for emergency medicine and critical care clinicians seeking advanced training in awake airway management and ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia.
Participants will learn how to perform flexible scope laryngoscopy and awake intubation while developing the technical skills necessary to manage anticipated and unanticipated difficult airways. The course also provides practical training in ultrasound-guided regional nerve blocks for acute pain management associated with fractures, wounds, and other emergency department procedures.
Through a combination of focused lectures, live demonstrations, hands-on simulation, and small-group instruction, learners will gain confidence in procedures that are infrequently performed but critically important when needed.
Learners will have the opportunity to volunteer to undergo laryngoscopy – please contact here for more information regarding consent and waiver.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the equipment, medications, and preparation required for flexible scope laryngoscopy and awake intubation.
- Perform flexible scope laryngoscopy and awake intubation using established best practices.
- Recognize airway anatomy and optimize visualization using a flexible video scope.
- Identify sonographic landmarks and anatomy necessary for ultrasound-guided distal extremity nerve blocks.
- Select appropriate tools, local anesthetics, and techniques for regional anesthesia in emergency and critical care settings.
- Apply ultrasound-guided nerve block techniques to support pain management for fractures, wounds, and bedside procedures.
