In 2023, the Center began awarding the Innovator in Diagnosis Award to an individual who has significantly changed the understanding of diagnosis in clinical medicine in a way that improves patient care.

The award is presented in person at the University of Maryland SOM as part of a visiting professorship involving a two-day visit with a lecture on diagnosis and meeting faculty and trainees. The award includes travel, a plaque and an honorarium.
