Resident Advocacy
Residents play an active role in shaping the future of the program.
Each class elects Resident Advocates who meet regularly with program leadership to provide feedback, identify opportunities for improvement, and collaborate on initiatives that enhance the resident experience.
Three senior residents serve as Chief Residents each year, providing leadership while representing resident interests.

Comprehensive Onboarding & Ongoing Support
Incoming residents participate in a structured onboarding program that includes hospital and departmental orientation, Epic training, credentialing guidance, compliance requirements, and individualized support from the Education Office.
Throughout residency, our team proactively monitors deadlines and educational milestones, providing reminders and assistance with:

- Evaluation tracking
- Educational milestones
- Monthly Residency Newsletter featuring program updates, important deadlines, action items, opportunities, resident achievements, upcoming events, and wellness initiatives—keeping residents informed, organized, and on track throughout the busy academic year.

Residents have access to modern learning spaces and technology designed to support education and collaboration, including:

- Comprehensive department intranet serving as a centralized hub for department-wide and resident-specific information, including clinical compliance tracking, resident fund balances, educational resources, conference calendars, forms, policies, and other important communication.
- Department mobile application providing real-time access to operating room assignments, conference calendars, attendance tracking, Epic compliance and more.
- Dedicated technology support is available through both the Department of Anesthesiology Information Technology team and the 24/7 University of Maryland Medical Center Information Services Help Desk.

ABA In-Training Examination (ITE) Incentive Program
Residents who meet established eligibility requirements are recognized through the Department's ABA In-Training Examination Incentive Program. Performance-based incentive awards are credited to eligible resident's Academic Fund in recognition of academic achievement.
Financial Support Throughout Residency
The Department is committed to investing in resident success by providing financial resources that support educational and professional development throughout training.
Our Anesthesiology Residents have access to:
- Generous Resident Annual Academic Fund and Perpetual Travel Fund for eligible expenses
- $1500 Graduate Medical Education (GME) Continuing Medical Education (CME) Fund for eligible educational activities
