Anesthesiology

Echocardiography

Our fellows gain competence in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) with two months of dedicated echocardiography training in both the operating room and the cardiology echo lab.

Training includes:

  • TEE (Transesophageal Echocardiography)

  • TTE (Transthoracic Echocardiography)

  • Epiaortic imaging

  • 3D technologies

We currently have:

  • Five Phillips IE33 machines (all with 3D capability)

  • Phillips Xcelera archiving system, which allows for easy review of previous echos outside the operating room

Procedural Volume & Certification

  • Fellows perform well over the required number of TEE examinations each year for the advanced PTE certification.

  • Fellows are strongly encouraged to attend the SCA Perioperative TEE Meeting in Atlanta, GA, in preparation for the Advanced PTE exam.

Support Resources

The department has three echocardiography technicians to assist with the technical aspects of the service, allowing fellows to focus on learning and mastering echocardiography techniques.
