Frequently Asked Questions

Faculty Member

My PTR notification letter instructs me to highlight accomplishments and activity from the past five years.  How should I do this?
Please use the text highlight feature in MS Word to bring attention to CV entries for relevant years.  This will enable the SOM PTR Committee to review cases efficiently.

My PTR notification letter states that the productivity statement is optional.  Should I create one?
While not required, a productivity statement is useful to the SOM PTR Committee.  The statement can be utilized to emphasize other activities of benefit to the institution that may offset any loss of funding.

Will my comments be shared with my department and/or program/center/institute?
The SOM Dean's Office will not share your optional response to the SOM PTR Committee with your department or program/center/institute.  You may choose to share that information.

Department, Program/Center/Institute

How does the rating of Meets Expectations with Qualifications differ from Not Meeting Expectations?
Meets expectations with qualification addresses circumstances that fall between meets expectations and not meeting expectations.  Meets expectations with qualification is used when there are some concerns or reservations and the faculty member is not fully meeting all expectations but not performing so poorly to warrant a rating of not meeting expectations.

The department (and any applicable program/center/institute) has recommended a rating of meets expectations with qualification or does not meet expectations for a faculty member.  Will the Dean's Office notify that faculty member?
The department must prepare a development plan and provide it to the faculty member for review and signature.  Once the faculty member has signed the document, please submit all PTR documentation to SOM OAA.
