EPH Funding Figures

The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) submitted 150 grant applications in FY2022. EPH faculty received $47m in extramural funding, and 89% of extramural funding came from federal sources.

The graphs below show the total EPH awards and NIH funding for FY2022. 

For FY21 Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research report, Epidemiology and Public Health ranks #1 among epidemiology public health departments in Schools of Medicine for public institutions, and 5th in like departments in Schools of Medicine overall (both public and private).

The department anticipates continued growth in extramural support. Factors pushing this growth include:

  1. Growth in the number of submitted proposals during FY2022 both with EPH and beyond
  2. Greater collaboration across campuses
  3. Recruitment of research faculty

The department is committed to expanding its research funding and to increasing the productivity of research projects.
