EPH Funding Figures
The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) was awarded $56.7 million in extramural funds in FY2020. EPH faculty received $47.5 million in federal support and $26.8 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The graphs below show the total EPH awards and NIH funding for FY2020.
For FY20 Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research report, Epidemiology and Public Health ranks #1 among epidemiology public health departments in Schools of Medicine for public institutions, and 4th in like departments in Schools of Medicine overall (both public and private).
The department anticipates continued growth in extramural support. Factors pushing this growth include:
- Growth in the number of submitted proposals during FY2021 both with EPH and beyond
- Greater collaboration across campuses
- Recruitment of research faculty
The department is committed to expanding its research funding and to increasing the productivity of research projects.
