EPH Funding Figures

The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) was awarded $56.7 million in extramural funds in FY2020. EPH faculty received $47.5 million in federal support and $26.8 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The graphs below show the total EPH awards and NIH funding for FY2020. 

 

 

The FY19 Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research report ranks EPH as #4 among state institutions in receiving NIH funding (#10 among all health departments nationwide). The graph below shows EPH Blue Ridge Rankings from 2010–2019. 

The department anticipates continued growth in extramural support. Factors pushing this growth include:

  1. Growth in the number of submitted proposals during FY2020 both with EPH and beyond
  2. Greater collaboration across campuses
  3. Recruitment of research faculty

The department is committed to expanding its research funding and to increasing the productivity of research projects.
