Our research is based on a deep commitment to improving the health, well-being, and quality of life of older adults across the spectrum of the aging experience.

Several faculty members of the division hold joint appointments in the Baltimore Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) -- nationally recognized for its research in exercise rehabilitation and weight loss in the treatment of obesity, cardiovascular risk factors, the prevention of diabetes, and rehabilitation of disabled stroke patients and frail older adults. This research is supported by the following VA and NIH grants and Research Centers:

• Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC)
• Center for Research on Aging

The research goals of the division are to:

• Conduct high-quality, peer-reviewed, funded gerontology research in exercise physiology, nutrition and metabolism in aging and disability;
• Advance the science of metabolic and exercise physiology research in aging, obesity, diabetes, and associated chronic diseases;
• Develop new areas and techniques for the conduct of research in aging; and
• Mentor trainees and junior faculty to advance their academic careers and help them be competitive for independent research funding.
