Site Description:
The Institute of Tropical Medicine "Alexander von Humboldt" of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, was founded in 1968 by Dr. Hugo Lumbreras, is the leading research center in infectious and tropical diseases in Peru.
We are a multidisciplinary Institute specialized in infectious and tropical diseases, with global leadership that conducts research, innovates and diversifies; promotes public policies and technology transfer, contributing to the country’s development. Over the years, IMT AvH has formed strategic alliances with multiple foreign institutions of high prestige, which has allowed our professionals to access high-quality educational programs (masters and doctorates); always looking forward to repatriate them to be part of the next generation of leaders in the country.
The main activity of our 8 research groups and 12 laboratories are performed in Lima but we also have activities in external sites like in the city of Cusco (the highlands of Perú), it counts with 3 laboratories (molecular biology, microbiology and experimental parasitology) and in the city of Iquitos (Amazon rainforest). In addition, in collaboration with the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia we provide specialized outpatient and inpatient care.
