Coordinated global effort is essential in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, and low-resource countries on the African continent are particularly vulnerable and in need of additional support. In the past, these nations have relied on their PEPFAR-leveraged health systems to tackle Ebola, avian flu, cholera, and other outbreaks. The same is being done today with respect to COVID-19, and Ciheb is playing a key role in furthering that effort.

Ciheb has conducted a population-based serosurveillance study in Nigeria to estimate the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in communities, household transmission, and the proportion of subclinical infections. In addition, Ciheb oversees molecular labs in SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics in several countries and is building readiness capacity and awareness for vaccination.

The perspectives available through the below links are offered by Ciheb country directors, principal investigators, and others, whose teams are working with national and local governments on the frontlines to respond to the pandemic. They are also ensuring continuity in HIV surveillance and treatment programming during this challenging time.
