Ciheb provides students and practicing health professionals from around the globe with opportunities to advance knowledge and gain experience in the prevention and treatment of HIV and other infectious and noncommunicable diseases. Our aim is to create opportunities to facilitate mutual exchanges beyond borders that foster greater understanding and cooperation while furthering advancements in combatting illness and strengthening institutional health systems.

Ciheb offers clinical, biomedical, behavioral science, and social work professional education in three areas.

Mentored International Exchange

As part of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Ciheb provides pre-doctoral, doctoral, and post-doctoral students and practicing health professionals with opportunities to advance knowledge and obtain practical clinical and research skills towards improving prevention and treatment of HIV, its co-morbidities, and other infectious diseases.

Workforce Development

Ciheb helps to create a skilled and knowledgeable health workforce by: developing domestic and international staff, and building in-service and pre-service educational capacity in resource-limited nations through sponsored projects, including curriculum and module development and research skills, as well as team-based and one-on-one mentorship and blended self-directed and practical learning. Interprofessional Collaboration

Ciheb faculty, comprised mostly from the Institute of Human Virology, and staff work closely with collaborators from other UMB schools, institutes, programs, and centers to advance educational initiatives across biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social aspects of HIV and other infectious diseases.
