Plan Ahead for 2027 Grant Submissions! Apply now for upcoming grant writing courses

Ready to write a competitive grant application? CARTI is pleased to highlight three grant writing training opportunities available this fall that combine didactic instruction, interactive discussions, and written feedback to help you prepare a high-quality grant application. These interactive programs offer hands-on guidance, expert feedback, and structured support to help participants prepare strong, fundable applications. Participants are expected to submit a grant application with 6 months of participation.

  1. Basic Science Research Training Track (15 weeks)
    CARTI is now accepting applications for the Fall 2026 Basic Research Training Track, a 4-month intensive program for UMB faculty focused on launching independent research careers. The program combines didactic and grant writing instruction, experiential learning, a capstone grant application, and a mock study section. Applications are due Monday, May 11, 2026, at 11:59pm EST.   2. Writing Your First R01 Grant – Small Interactive Class (10 weeks)
    Designed for new and junior faculty actively developing an NIH R01 or equivalent application, this highly interactive course walks participants through every major section of the application, from Specific Aims to Budget, during weekly two-hour sessions. The class will meet in the Fall 2026 (tentatively October-December) two hours once a week over Zoom.
    Applications are due September 2026. Class size is limited. Join the waitlist by contacting the instructor, Christy Chang.

  3. Writing a Career Development Award (K/CDA) Grant – Small Interactive Class (10 weeks)
    This course is ideal for early-stage faculty and senior postdocs actively developing a K or other career development award for an upcoming submission. Participants engage in a mix of didactic sessions and in-depth discussion of their draft proposals. Chair approval is required. The class will meet in the Fall 2026 (tentatively September-November).
