Congratulations to the following eight CARTI alumni who recently received funding!

 

NIH Career Development (K) Award Class Scholars:

Whitney Parker, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, UMSOM, was awarded an NIH K08 entitled “The Role of STRADA in Inhibitory Neuron Migration and Corticogenesis.”

 

 



Florence Doo, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, UMSOM, received an award through the Mid-Atlantic Center for Cardiometabolic Health Equity (MACCHE) Pilot Project Award Program on her project entitled “Heat Impacts on Radiology Equity and Access for Cardiovascular Health (HI-REACH).”

 

 


Omar Harfouch, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, UMSOM, received an award through the Robert A. Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials Award Program entitled “A pre-post interventional study evaluating Gardasil nine-valent Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine humoral and cellular immune responses in people with or without HIV (PROTECT)” and an NIH K23 entitled “The Role of Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy in Anal Human Papilloma Virus Persistence (HPV) and Systemic and Mucosal Immunity in Transgender Women with and without HIV.”



Prajwal Ciryam, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Neurology, UMSOM, received an award through the American Academy of Neurology entitled “CXCR2-Dependent neutophil recruitment to the Brian after traumatic injury.”

 

 

 

Julio Arturo Huapaya, MD, Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellow, National Institutes of Health, was awarded an NIH K22 entitled “Quantitative Myositis-Specific Autoantibody Levels and Proteomic Profiling in Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy-associated Interstitial Lung Disease."

 

 


NIH Career Development (K) Award Class & Training Track Scholars:

Brittany Burch, PhD, RN, Assistant Professor, Organizational Systems and Adult Health, UMSON, was awarded an NIH K01 entitled “Preserving Ability through Virtual Exercise (PAVE): An Intervention to Increase the Physical Activity of Hospitalized Older Adults.”

 

 



Arissa Torrie, MD, MHS, Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopaedics and the Department of Anesthesiology, UMSOM, was awarded an NIH GEMSSTAR R03 entitled “Association of Peripheral Nerve Blocks with Postoperative Outcomes and Readmissions in Older Adults Undergoing Hip Fracture Surgery.”

 

 

 

NIH R01 Grant Writing Class Scholar:

Raphael Meier, MD, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, UMSOM, received an award through the American Society of Transplant Surgeons entitled, "Enhanced Kidney Preservation via Ultra-Low Temperature Storage and Ex Vivo Perfusion."
