Where Evidence and Researchers Grow

More than 5 million Americans sustain an extremity fracture each year, one million of whom require surgical treatment. These common injuries often cause long-term functional impairment, decreased quality of life, and financial hardship.

Addressing the immense public health burden of orthopaedic injuries, the Center for Orthopaedics, Injury, and Research Innovation (COIRI) is dedicated to advancing the orthopaedic trauma research community. COIRI offers a breadth of clinical research consulting and design services, as well as immersive mentorship opportunities.

Led by investigators in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), COIRI is committed to the overarching objective of conducting impactful clinical research to improve the outcomes of our patients.
