UM School of Medicine’s Sarah Kattakuzhy, MD, MPH, Selected Among Women to Watch by The Baltimore Sun

Sarah M. Kattakuzhy, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry at UMSOM, Associate Director of the Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine, and Co-Director of the Research Initiative on Infectious Disease and Substance Use Disorder (RIIS) at UMSOM’s Institute of Human Virology (IHV), was recently named a 2023 Women to Watch winner by The Baltimore Sun. The award recognizes the most accomplished women in the Baltimore area who have had significant achievements within the past year or have projects on the horizon. Dr. Kattakuzhy joins 24 other leading women who were recognized this year for their important contributions to business, activism, research, and more.

UMSOM Names Dr. Nader M. Habashi as the Hamish S. and Christine C. Osborne Distinguished Professor of Advanced Pulmonary Care

On June 12, 2023 before a large audience of University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) faculty and staff, family members, friends, and distinguished invited guests, Nader M. Habashi, MD, FACP, FCCP, an internationally renowned expert on critical care medicine and a pioneer of innovative respiratory therapy, was invested as the Hamish S. and Christine C. Osborne Distinguished Professor of Advanced Pulmonary Care.

Located in the Himalayas between Nepal and Tibet, Mount Everest stands as the highest Himalayan Mountain at 8,849 meters (29,032 feet) above sea level. Considered the highest point on Earth, nearly 800 climbers attempt to trek to its peak every year.

UM School of Medicine Forms New Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion to Proactively Foster Equity and Inclusivity for SOM Community

As part of the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s ongoing commitment to elevating issues of diversity, equity and inclusion for students, faculty and staff, UMSOM Dean Mark T. Gladwin, MD, announced the formation of a new Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI). In making the announcement, Dean Gladwin also named the Office’s first director, JP Pierre, MSc, SPHR, PMP, a seasoned EDI strategist and innovator with 23 years of experience steering organizations toward greater inclusivity and organizational success.

UMSOM Faculty Speakers Deliver Inspirational Messages at UMB’s 2nd Annual Faculty Convocation

Two faculty from the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), along with Glenn Canares, DDS, MSD, Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, delivered compelling keynote addresses at the UMB Faculty Convocation held on September 14, 2023. With the hope of inspiring faculty and staff at the beginning of the new academic year, the celebration recognized faculty achievements and honored the 2023-2024 cohort of UMB Distinguished University Professors.
