Investigators in M&I are developing vaccines to protect against major infectious diseases, including emerging viruses such as influenza, coronavirus, HIV-1 and flaviviruses.

Research spans from pre-clinical antigen and platform engineering, investigation of bacterial-derived adjuvants, understanding how T cells, B cells and antibodies recognize and defend against pathogens both at the molecular and serum level, to efficacy testing in a range of animal models which mimic various human co-morbidities.

Overarching goals are to develop “universal” vaccines using immunological and omics approaches, uncovering the molecular features which underpin successful vaccines.
