Program in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology

The Graduate Program in Life Sciences (GPILS) is proud to offer the Program in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology (MMI), a cutting-edge program that provides a comprehensive education in molecular and cell biology, microbiology and immunology, and an in-depth training in M&I research. Open to PhD and MD/PhD students, this program facilitates world class training across multiple institutes and departments at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

STAR-PREP


For Recent Baccalaureate Graduates 

The Science Training for Advancing Biomedical Research Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program (STAR-PREP) provides mentored research training in the biomedical sciences to rigorously and comprehensively prepare recent baccalaureate graduates for successful entry into a PhD program.

The UMB Accelerating Momentum for Professionals in Life Sciences (AMPLIFY) Program provides mentored research experiences, professional development, and networking and community engagement opportunities to help build a stronger cancer research workforce and ensure a myriad of perspectives contribute to advancing cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

For Undergraduate Students

The UMB American Cancer Society-Internship for Mentored Projects Advancing Cancer Translation (ACS-IMPACT) Program provides a 10-week intensive research experience with optional clinical shadowing opportunities to support the development of undergraduate students in the field of cancer research.

For Undergraduate Students 

The Supporting Undergraduate Members in Microbiology and Immunology Research (SUMMIR) Program is a 10-week research-intensive summer internship which provides a comprehensive view of the interdisciplinary fields of microbiology and immunology through mentored research, active learning courses and networking experiences.

Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP)


For Prospective Medical & Predoctoral Students

The mission of our MSTP is to train a diverse and creative cadre of physician-scientists who will become leaders in their chosen fields of research, develop new knowledge and translate it to enhance clinical practice. The MD is combined with a PhD program offered by the Graduate Program in Life Sciences (GPILS).

For Postdoctoral Fellows & Predoctoral Students

There are many active NIH-funded training programs at the UMSOM, covering a broad spectrum of biomedical training. These training programs provide financial support, didactic and research training, and a variety of professional and career development opportunities to postdoctoral fellows and predoctoral students enrolled in GPILS, as specified for each training program.
