Dr. Mbuya will spend his fellowship year at National Institute for Medical Research in Mbeya, Tanzania under the mentorship of Mkunde Chachage, B.Sc, M.Sc, PhD and Andrew DiNardo, MD, PhD. His research will focus on Investigating the role of HIV and TB in reducing immune response to childhood vaccines in Tanzanian children.

Dr. Mbuya is a Research Scientist - Immunologist at National Institute for Medical Research - Tanzania. His primary career goal is to become an African principal investigator, whose focus is on infectious diseases, specifically HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB). He is fortunate to be mentored by numerous mentors, both formally and informally in personal and professional settings.
