Dr. Shayo will spend his fellowship year at Baylor College of Medicine Malawi in Lilongwe, Malawi under the mentorship of Jeffrey P. Wilkinson, M.D, Kjersti M Aagaard, MD PhD FACOG, Gregory Valentine, MD MEd FAAP, Maxim Seferovic, Phd, and Kelli Diane Barbour, MD MSc MA. His research will focus on alterations in the oral and vaginal microbiome communities among gravidae chewing xylitol-gum in Malawi.

Dr. Shayo is an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine. His fellowship research will also explore whether there is a microbiota most associated with resultant preterm birth and/or low birth weight. Dr. Shayo is an obstetrician gynecologist interested in high-risk pregnancies with at least 4 years of experience in treating, teaching and research.
