Dr. Adu-Gyamfi will spend his fellowship year at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in Johannesburg under the mentorship of Melinda Suchard BSc, MBBCh, FCPath, MMED, DTM&H,Neil Martinson, MD, MPH, Andrew Adjei, MSc, PhD and Anna Maria Mandalakas, MD, PhD, FAAP . His research will focus on immune regulation and tolerance in Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV diseases.
Over the past five years, Dr. Adu-Gyamfi has been exploring the plausibility of a host-derived immunomodulatory enzyme, indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) as a diagnostic biomarker for active TB disease in HIV-infected patients.
