Dr. Hamooya will spend his fellowship year at the Center for Infectious Disease Research Zambia (CIDRZ) and University of Zambia in Zambia, under the mentorship of Sadeep Shrestha, PhD, MS, MHS and Samuel Bosomprah, MSc, PhD. His research will focus on developing a personalized risk prediction model for metabolic syndrome among people with HIV receiving antiretroviral therapy using demographic, clinical, lifestyle, laboratory, and anthropometric data in sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr. Hamooya is a lecturer and researcher at Mulungushi University. Dr. Hamooya is an alumnus of the University of Zambia (UNZA) Vanderbilt Training Partnership for HIV-Nutrition-Metabolic research (UVP) that earned him his PhD in Epidemiology. He has over 10 years of work experience in sub-Saharan Africa working as a biomedical scientist in the Ministry of Health and researcher at University of Zambia and Mulungushi University. His primary research area is in finding solutions for noncommunicable diseases (NCD) and metabolic syndrome (a precursor of NCD) among people with HIV in Zambia and sub-Saharan Africa.
