Identifying, Implementing Best Medical Practices for Acute Neurological Disorders

The Division of Neurocritical Care and Emergency Neurology seeks to identify and implement the best medical practices for acute neurological disorders and promote compassionate care and respect for patient-centered values.

We aim to develop clinical, experimental, and outcomes research focused on innovative interventions, while training a new generation of intensivists focused on the resuscitation and recovery of patients with acute injury to the nervous system.

Our division offers comprehensive, expert services for patients with a diverse range of acute neurological disorders, including:

• Subarachnoid hemorrhage
• Intracerebral hemorrhage
• Ischemic stroke
• Status epilepticus
• Encephalitis/Meningitis
• Severe neuromuscular disease (Guillaine-Barré syndrome, myasthenia gravis)
• Postoperative neurosurgical care

• Coma recovery after extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

Neurocritical Care Fellowship

The University of Maryland Neurocritical Care Fellowship offers a UCNS-accredited two-year training program.
