Education @ IGS: Something for Everyone!

IGS believes curiosity sparks ideas, innovation fuels science, and knowledge ignites meaningful breakthroughs. That is the foundation of our many educational programs.

IGS boasts strong graduate and post-doctoral training. Our faculty mentor students from multiple PhD and master's graduate programs at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. IGS is the home of the Genome Biology Track within the Molecular Medicine PhD program, which is part of the Graduate Program in Life Sciences (GPILS).

In addition, IGS postdoctoral fellows participate in robust campus-level organizations and have an excellent track record of securing F, T, and K grants. IGS Microbial Systems also has a T32 grant—Systems-Level Research in Microbial Pathogenesis—that supports two graduate students and two postdoctoral fellows each year.

In addition to graduate students and postdocs, we passionately teach all levels—from middle school through seasoned professionals—about genomics and bioinformatics. Our outreach offering includes professional workshops, seminars, webinars, internships, and summer STEM programs.
