While promotion may seem distant for new faculty, it is always a good idea to familiarize yourself early with the requirements for promotion, and to approach your work with an eye on promotion. The four areas valued for promotion at UMSOM are contributions to knowledge, clinical activity, teaching activity, and service to the institution and community.

Keeping and maintaining an accurate CV in UMSOM format, and updating teaching and clinical portfolios annually or more often, will help you keep track of relevant activities you will ultimately need to document for promotion.
