Genome Informatics Core: The Go-To for Bioinformatics Analysis
The Genome Informatics Core (GIC) serves as a central hub for accessing computational infrastructure and expertise, enabling investigators to efficiently use shared resources. In parallel, we advance and apply modern AI and data science methods to support emerging approaches in biological analysis. Our work spans high-throughput sequencing, multiomics, and scalable bioinformatics, all supported by continuously evolving methodologies and robust analytical pipelines.
As a shared resource for the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), our computing infrastructure will support your research at every stage—from data hosting, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination. By using this platform, you eliminate the overhead of building and maintaining your own infrastructure while gaining immediate access to scalable computing, validated workflows, and experienced support. Using our resource will reduce your technical risk, improve reproducibility, and accelerate your analytical capability. You also will benefit from a secure environment designed for sensitive and controlled-access data, with robust protections for data privacy, access control, and long-term stewardship. The GIC collaborates closely with Maryland Genomics to provide custom and comprehensive bioinformatics services to researchers on campus and beyond. The GIC staff has built a set of robust data management and visualization tools that are used to democratize bioinformatics and clinical informatics analysis and visualization to researchers within IGS, across the campus, and around the world.
