Education @ IGS: Something for Everyone!
IGS believes education is the backbone of research. That's why we passionately teach all levels--from Kindergarten through Professionals--about genomics and bioinformatics sciences. We hold regular seminars to keep our faculty and other colleagues up to date on the latest research in our fields.
Throughout each year, we hold professional training for those across the globe in transcriptome and microbiome analysis, as well as data visualization. Join our email list to stay up-to-date with dates with our programs.
Each summer, we welcome dozens of undergraduate and high school interns to learn hands-on in our faculty member's labs. Our undergraduates come from throughout University of Maryland, Baltimore programs, including the University of Maryland Scholars Summer Research Program (UM Scholars), Supporting Undergraduate Members in Microbiology and Immunology Research (SUMMIR), Nathan Schnaper Intern Program in Translational Cancer Research (NSIP), National Foundation for Cancer Research Summer Internship (NFCR), and the Bridges to the Doctorate program (B2D).
Our high school program is incredibly competitive. Those who are chosen follow a live online curriculum that includes field trips to places such as IGS labs and the nearby Illumina training center.
We believe in starting young in science education. Our K-12 and STEM community programs focus on our local West Baltimore community with hands-on experiences in science.
