What the UMB BioBank Provides


The UMB BioBank helps investigators efficiently incorporate biospecimens into their research. As a centralized institutional resource, we provide the infrastructure and expertise needed to support study planning, sample handling, and long‑term storage, while ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance.

Investigators can:

Store biospecimens securely in a monitored, compliant environment

Use standardized laboratory processing workflows to support reproducible research 

Consult with biobank experts on feasibility, operational planning, and biospecimen management

Request access to existing human biospecimens to support their research

Use the Biospecimen Catalog button at the top of the page to explore available human biospecimens and assess study feasibility prior to requesting access

How to Request UMB Biobank Services

Create or Access Your iLab Account

Register for an iLab account or log in to an existing account to get started.

Submit a Service Request

Complete the service request form in iLab to describe your study needs.

Consultation and Approval

The Biobank team reviews your request and may contact you to discuss details.

Sample Processing and Storage

After approval, samples are received, processed, and stored according to your project.
