Here at Maryland, equipping our students with a strong research foundation along with superior clinical training is the reason why our graduates excel in residency and beyond. There are many opportunities to participate in scholarly projects with the Foundations in Research and Critical Thinking (FRCT) course and the numerous resources available to all students in the Office of Student Research.

Foundations of Research and Critical Thinking (FRCT)

The Foundations of Research and Critical Thinking (FRCT) course provides a foundational education in biomedical research and ample opportunities for individual, student-centered scholarly pursuits. You will learn essential research skills such as hypothesis generation/testing, clinical research design and critical assessment of the biomedical literature. Additional course content includes clinical decision making and reviewing scientific articles. All students are required to complete a mentored, hypothesis-based scholarly project, and there are hundreds of projects to choose from that are designed with medical students in mind.
