Microbiology & Immunology
Immunology & Host Responses

Immunology research in the M&I department spans a wide range of topics. These include:

  • The evolution of the immune system in amphibians and sharks
  • Clinical studies improving transplantation tolerance or tumor immunotherapy in humans.
  • Pathogenesis of autoimmunity
  • Host responses (e.g., molecular and cellular) to microbial pathogens (e.g., bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites)
  • Transcriptomics and epigenomics in host defense

The various immunology laboratories are also associated with several centers involved in vaccine development (CVD), human virology (IHV), molecular genomics (IGS) and comparative biology (IMET).
