About Dr. Blanpied
Dr. Thomas Blanpied is a Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology. His long-standing interest in cognition and learning has led to his current work to understand the cellular processes that underlie mental health and psychiatric disorders.
Dr. Blanpied earned his Master's and PhD at the University of Pittsburgh, where he used single-channel recordings to study the mechanisms by which the anti-Parkinsonian and anti-Alzheimer's drugs amantadine and memantine act on NMDA receptors. He completed postdoctoral training at Duke University, where he focused on the cell biology of synaptic transmission. Dr. Blanpied became a faculty member at UMSOM in 2005 and became Vice Chair in 2022.
