Dr. Sarkar joined the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2025. He grew up in Kolkata (Calcutta), India, did his bachelors and masters from Presidency College and Calcutta University.
After receiving his PhD in Molecular Biophysics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, he joined Dr. Ganes C. Sen’s Laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute for post-doctoral research. He has been an active researcher in the fields of dsRNA-regulated proteins and dsRNA-signaling pathways. For his work on dsRNA-signaling pathways, he was awarded 2003 Milstein Young Investigator Award by The International Society for Interferon and Cytokine Research.
