Mathur, PhD, Professor, Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, is senior author of “Serotonin and Psilocybin Activate 5-HT1B Receptors to Suppress Cortical Signaling Through the Claustrum,” which was accepted for publication in Nature Communications on August 7, 2025. Steffen Wolff, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, is co-author.
Andrea Meredith, PhD, Adjunct Professor and Ria Dinsdale, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Physiology, authored the study, ‘BK channel activity in skin fibroblasts from patients with neurological disorder,’ with collaborators from The Undiagnosed Diseases Program at NHGRI. The study will be published in an upcoming issue of Channels (ePub ahead of print August 13, 2025). doi: 10.1080/19336950.2025.2542811
Aidan L. Pham, PhD Candidate, Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, Ashley E. Marquardt, PhD, Program Manager, UM-MIND, and Margaret M. McCarthy, PhD, Professor, Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, along with several other collaborators co-authored, “Timing matters: modeling the effects of gestational cannabis exposure on social behavior and microglia in the developing amygdala,” which was published in Neuropsychopharmacology on July 23, 2025.

Margaret M. McCarthy, PhD, an internationally-recognized neuroscientist, who is the James and Carolyn Frenkil Dean’s Endowed Professor in the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Drug Development, and Director of the University of Maryland – Medicine Institute of Neuroscience Discovery (UM-MIND), has been elected as a new member of the National Academy of Medicine.
