LCME Standards:

6.8 Education Program Duration

Scope and Purpose

The LCME requires that a medical education program includes a minimum of 130 weeks of instruction.

Policy Statement

For purposes of credit hour determination, the School of Medicine equates one week of instruction (a minimum of forty required hours) to one credit hour. This is the same equivalency used by the Office of the Registrar for University-level administrative purposes.

Changes in academic period or credit hour determination must be reviewed and approved by the Curriculum Coordinating Committee of the School of Medicine. Any substantive change in course offerings (new offerings or changes to existing offerings) must be reviewed and approved by the Curriculum Coordinating Committee.
