How to Participate in A Second Look Program

How to Participate in This Program:

1. Request the service 8 weeks before the UMSOM internal deadline and 9 weeks before the NIH submission deadline.
2. Submit the following grant application components for review:
   • Specific Aims (draft version is acceptable)
   • Research Strategy (including the Introduction page if it is a resubmission)
   • Biosketches
3. Participate in a mock study section approximately three weeks before the NIH submission deadline.
4. Receive structured feedback from three senior UMB faculty reviewers.
5. Revise and strengthen your application based on reviewer feedback prior to submission.

*Note: The grant to be reviewed must be in proper NIH format

Request A Second Look Review

Submit a request for the “A Second Look” Review Service using the Internal Grant Review Request Form at least 8 weeks prior to your NIH submission deadline. Upon receipt of your request, someone will contact you with additional information regarding eligibility and next steps in the review process.

Submit Grant Review Materials

When instructed, upload all required application materials using the Grant Review Materials Submission Form. Materials should be submitted no later than 5 weeks prior to the NIH submission deadline to allow reviewers sufficient time to evaluate the application.

Please allow at least 2 weeks for reviewers to complete their assessment and provide written feedback.
