The ARC3 Summer Research Program provides students with an immersive, hands-on experience in translational trauma and critical care research. Designed for individuals interested in medicine, biomedical sciences, engineering, and military medicine, the program offers participants the opportunity to contribute to innovative research focused on improving outcomes for critically injured patients in both civilian and military settings. Working within a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment, students engage with physician-scientists, researchers, engineers, and military partners while gaining exposure to the processes that drive scientific discovery and clinical innovation. Through the integration of laboratory research, clinical exposure, and military medicine, participants develop the knowledge and skills needed for future careers in medicine, biomedical research, and healthcare innovation while fostering mentorship, collaboration, and scientific curiosity.
What You Will Experience
Through close faculty mentorship and hands-on training, participants engage in a wide range of research and clinical experiences while developing the skills needed to conduct high-quality research. Students have the opportunity to design and complete an independent research project, gaining experience in study design, data collection, analysis, and scientific presentation. Experiences include both in vivo and in vitro laboratory techniques, clinical and translational research, combat casualty care research, military medical innovation, and the development and evaluation of technologies for use in austere and operational environments. In addition, participants will have opportunities to observe clinical care through structured shadowing experiences, offering firsthand insight into the translation of laboratory discoveries into patient care.
