Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM)
ELAM offers comprehensive leadership and management skills for female-identifying faculty at the associate professor level or higher. ELAM's intent is to develop future leaders for academic medicine. UMSOM is proud to support up to 2 faculty per annum to attend this program. If interested in applying, please email the Office of Faculty Affairs & Professional Development.
Stanford Physician Leadership Certificate Program
This program offers comprehensive leadership and management skills in a completely virtual learning format to help make these critical skills accessible to a broad and diverse physician audience. Leadership Summit for Women in Academic Medicine & Healthcare
The Leadership Summit for Women is ideal for leaders dedicated to the advancement of women, including faculty and administrators. This summit accelerates the development of leaders through skill-based learning, connection with other leaders in academic medicine and healthcare, and insight from experts on how to successfully lead in today’s complex academic medicine and healthcare environment. The summit is Thursday, April 9, 2026, Novi, MI.
Early Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar
This seminar is designed for women physicians and scientists with an appointment at an AAMC member school of medicine, with a minimum of two years of experience (February 2024) as an Assistant Professor.

The American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) also offers several leadership development programs for faculty.
UMB LEAPS Symposium
The Leaders in Education: Academy of Presidential Scholars (LEAPS) initiative hosts an annual symposium featuring a keynote presentation, interactive sessions on inclusive teaching and learning approaches, and recognition of distinguished educators and instructional innovation seed grant award winners. The 4th Annual Leaps Symposium will be held on March 26, 2026.
NCFDD

For faculty interested in growing a research career, looking for mentoring, or assistance with identifying funding options, publishing research, or other research-related questions, the SOM Office of Research Affairs and the Center for Advanced Research Training and Innovation (CARTI) are excellent resources.
The Office of Research Affairs (ORA) provides support for research being conducted at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM). The ORA serves as a "research hub" to assist faculty in expanding collaborative, innovate research that will lead to an increased number of novel competitive grant applications to a variety of funding agencies.
CARTI is hub for training in foundations of research, scientific communication, and leadership skills necessary to succeed in an academic research institution. CARTI can support your research and professional development through the following approaches.
