The Office of Medical Education

The mission of the Office of Medical Education (OME)is to support the educational program of the School of Medicine across the continuum through curricular oversight, education innovation, technological expertise, assessment and evaluation management, and research.

OME is directed by the Associate Dean for Medical Education and Student Experience and works closely with the other offices in Undergraduate Medical Education (Admissions, Student Affairs, and Student Research) to manage and enrich the student experience at UMSOM.

Dear Students,

Welcome to the University of Maryland School of Medicine from the Office of Medical Education Team! We are delighted that you have chosen to join us as a learner in our Renaissance Curriculum. The Renaissance Curriculum was designed to actualize the Renaissance Physician; life-long learners who are clinically excellent and possess humanism, professionalism, scholarship, leadership, critical thinking and attention to social justice and diversity. Team OME supports this mission through curricular oversight, education innovation, technological expertise, assessment and evaluation management, and research.

During your time here at UMSOM, we will work closely with you to achieve your own educational and career goals. Our office manages all aspects of the curriculum including design, innovation, implementation, and evaluation. We also work to support you in conjunction with our colleagues in the Office of Student Affairs. We encourage each one of you to come in to meet us and discuss your goals. In addition, let us know about your experiences throughout your time here – we take student feedback very seriously and use it to improve our curriculum for both current and future classes. The time in medical school goes quickly, and we want you to spend that time in an environment that is welcoming and conducive to learning.
