Are you a passionate and innovative scientist driven by the potential to prevent cancer before it starts?
Do you thrive at the intersection of genetics, early cancer development, and translational science?
If so, we invite you to consider a unique and impactful opportunity in our laboratory at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore.
Our lab is dedicated to tackling a critical challenge in oncology: understanding and intercepting gastrointestinal precancers that arise in individuals with inherited germline genetic mutations.
While much of cancer research focuses on treating established disease, our primary mission is cancer interception.
What is Cancer Interception?
It is a strategy that focuses on intervening in the cancer development process before it becomes clinically detectable, potentially before it even becomes malignant.
We believe that by dissecting the molecular and cellular origins of genetically-driven precancers, we can identify vulnerable pathways and develop strategies to halt or even reverse their progression, ultimately preventing invasive cancer in high-risk individuals and families.
Working with unique models and patient-derived resources from our comprehensive cancer center, your research will delve deep into the fundamental mechanisms by which specific germline mutations initiate and drive precancerous changes in the gastrointestinal tract. This is a chance to contribute to groundbreaking discoveries that have direct translational potential, moving beyond basic science to inform clinical strategies for surveillance, chemoprevention, and early intervention.
Join Us!
We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with expertise in areas such as molecular biology, genetics, cell signaling, preclinical models, or genomics/proteomics. You will have the opportunity to lead exciting projects, develop cutting-edge technical skills, publish high-impact research, and contribute significantly to a collaborative and dynamic team environment.
Our lab offers access to state-of-the-art facilities and fosters strong connections with clinical colleagues, enabling a truly integrated bench-to-bedside research experience.
This is more than just a research position; it's an opportunity to be at the forefront of cancer treatment and prevention, making a tangible difference in the lives of people predisposed to devastating cancers.
If you are ready to apply your scientific talents to a mission-driven cause with profound clinical implications, we strongly encourage you to connect with us.
