Affiliation Agreements

The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) utilizes the AAMC Uniform Clinical Training Affiliation Agreement for all visiting student placements. These agreements are required to ensure appropriate legal, educational, and logistical arrangements for clinical training, including liability coverage, supervision standards, and institutional responsibilities.

UMSOM Policy:

  • Affiliation Agreement coordination begins only after a student has been officially accepted for an elective
  • Agreements cannot be initiated or reviewed prior to acceptance

Home School Responsibilities

Before applying, students should check with their home school’s administrative office (typically the Office of Student Affairs or Registrar) to determine whether an existing affiliation agreement is already in place with UMSOM.

  • If an agreement already exists:
    • No further action is required unless it is set to expire before the elective dates.
  • If an agreement does not exist:
    • Your home school must contact:
