Medical Student Personal Insurance Requirements
UMB and/or the LCME require all medical students to carry several different types of insurance coverage while enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine program, specifically, health insurance, accident insurance, disability insurance, and malpractice insurance. These policies are critical for the care and protection of medical students and others with whom they interact (faculty, students, patients, other members of the healthcare team) while participating in medical education.
Students are expected to follow the reporting and documentation procedures as required by each insurer. Failure to comply with campus insurance coverage requirements could be prevent a student from participating in certain medical education courses, clerkships, and other scheduled activities. If left unresolved, students could delay their progression in the program, and/or be dismissed from the program.
