Accelerating Interdisciplinary Resident Education in Opioid Use Disorder and Harm Reduction (AIROH)
The Division of Addiction Research and Treatment was awarded the AIROH grant by SAMHSA to enhance access to medications for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD). The AIROH project is an OUD education intervention to improve the knowledge and skills of residents on the front lines of the opioid epidemic and augment the physician workforce able to provide comprehensive, culturally-competent, and evidence-based care to patients with OUD. 

Fellowship Programs
The Addiction Medicine and Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Programs are administered through the Division of Addiction Research and Treatment. The Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Program is the only one of its kind in the state. Currently, the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship program has graduated 48 fellows, and the Addiction Medicine Fellowship program has graduated 6 fellows.

Maryland Addiction Consultation Service (MACS)
Funded by the Maryland Department of Health Behavioral Health Administration, MACS provides support to prescribers and their practices, pharmacists, and healthcare teams in addressing the needs of patients with substance use disorders and chronic pain management. With support and guidance from MACS' interdisciplinary team of expert addiction medicine, OBGYN, infectious disease, pharmacy, and pain specialists, providers have access to free phone consultation, virtual and in person education opportunities, and technical assistance services.

Medical Student/Resident Addiction Education
UMSOM and the Division of Addiction Research and Treatment provide basic science and clinical addiction education to UMB medical students, UMMC residents, UMB students from other schools, and the community at large.

Naloxone and Overdose Prevention Awareness and Training
Several of our faculty members have been an integral part of city and state initiatives that aim to curtail the number of heroin-related overdose fatalities, by delivering naloxone administration training classes to members of the police force, fire department, and to community members at large.

Tuerk Conference on Mental Health and Addiction Treatment
In collaboration with NCADD-MD, the Division hosts the annual Tuerk Conference on Mental Health and Addiction Treatment. Over the last three decades, it has grown from a small grand rounds lecture to a large-scale conference with over 1,000 in attendance. Each year there are specific talks and workshops on a variety of substance use and mental health issues. The conference draws attendees from across the Mid-Atlantic region and speakers from all over the country. It is the main educational event for the Maryland region on addiction treatment.

District Addiction Consultation Service (DACS)
Modeled after MACS for the District of Columbia, DACS provides support to primary care and specialty prescribers across DC in addressing the needs of their patients with substance use disorders and chronic pain management. Funding for DACS is provided by the District of Columbia Government, DC Health, Health Regulation and Licensing Administration (HRLA), Pharmaceutical Control Division (PCD)
