Biosketch
Jay Menaker, MD earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Medical Degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center and his Trauma/Critical Care fellowship at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Dr. Menaker is board certified in Emergency Medicine. He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Emergency Physicians, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization.
Upon completion of his fellowship Dr. Menaker joined the faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine as a Visiting Instructor, Department of Surgery. In 2006 he was appointed as Assistant Professor, in 2011 he was promoted to Associate Professor, Department of Surgery with a secondary appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine. For the University of Maryland School of Medicine Dr. Menaker serves on the Appeals Committee. For the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center he is the Fellowship Director for the Emergency Medicine Critical Care Fellowship, he chairs the Clinical Quality/Performance Improvement Committee, and serves as the Physician Director of Quality Management, he also serves on a number of committees. For the University of Maryland Medical Center he serves as the Chair of the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Medical Staff Peer Review Committee and serves on a number of committees. Dr. Menaker is currently the Medical Director of the Lung Rescue and NeuroTrauma Intermediate Care Units.
Dr. Menaker has authored 58 peer-reviewed articles and 12 book chapters. He has presented at a number of national conferences, to name a few, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, Western Trauma Association, International EuroELSO Congress, American College of Emergency Physicians. He is a reviewer for 3 journals and serves on the editorial boards of 2 journals.
