Dr. Mancewicz grew up in Michigan, and attended Kalamazoo College, in Kalamazoo, Mi, where she studied English, as well as the requisite biology, chemistry, and physics courses to enter medical school (Health Science). In the 80's Kalamazoo College featured the "K Plan," where students attended college all year, participating in a Career Development quarter in the sophomore year, a Foreign Study experience in the junior year, and a Senior Individualized project in the senior year. Dr. Mancewicz spent her career development quarter in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she worked with a vascular surgeon and learned about the medical field. She spent her junior year foreign study experience in Madrid, Spain, practicing her Spanish and learning about the Spanish Civil War from the grandson of an anarchist. Her Senior Individualized Project analyzed the novels of George Eliot, a female Victorian novelist.
Dr. Mancewicz attended the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, MI, like her father, Dr. Jerome Mancewicz, and her mother, Dr. Theresa Palaszek. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Hospitals, and went to New York for a residency in Dermatology at the New York University Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology. During her residency she worked at the old Skin and Cancer clinic on 30th St, as well as at Bellevue Hospital and the Manhattan VA Hospital. She completed a Sulzberger Fellowship at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, and joined the Dermatology faculty at NYU. Recently, Dr. Mancewicz has joined the faculty at the University of Maryland Department of Dermatology. She is married to Dr. Thomas Hornyak, the Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Maryland. She has regular general dermatology appointments on Monday at the Department of Dermatology offices in downtown Baltimore, and on Wednesday evenings at the satellite practice in Columbia, MD. She does not practice cosmetic dermatology. Her clinical interests include general medical dermatology and teaching residents and medical students.
