Biosketch

Dr. Lee’s major research interest in medical imaging has been focused on the human heart. He conducted research on the optimization and evaluation of new image reconstruction algorithms, image processing techniques, and correction methods for 3D/4D SPECT and PET to improve image quality and accuracy which can be traded for the reduction of radiation dose. He also developed 4D human and mathematical task-based image evaluation methods and tools that can perform on 4D motion images such as gated cardiac images. Through his extensive experiences in realistic simulation, he developed 4D digital phantom dataset using Monte Carlo simulation technique that can simulate simultaneous cardiac and respiratory motions, and has worked on the application of the simultaneous dual motion compensation methods for 4D myocardial perfusion SPECT and PET, and high-resolution preclinical SPECT and PET/CT imaging.

Recently, Dr. Lee is investigating the use of artificial intelligence or deep learning models for biomedical imaging applications. He is particularly interested in transfer learning technology with the use of realistically simulated images for the automatic detection of defect or damage in various organs due to radiation treatment or diseases such as cancer.
