Biosketch

Dr. Kopelman is an associate professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences and the director of the Maternal and Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College and interned at Brooke Army Medical Center. He served his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Brooke Army Medical Center and was a fellow in maternal-fetal medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center where later in his career he returned to direct the fellowship. Dr. Kopelman retired from the U.S. Army in 1998 as the Director of Obstetrics at The National Naval Medical Center and senior perinatologist in the Department of Defense. He served as the Vice Chair-Retired of the Army Section of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is a member of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine, the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. He has reviewed papers for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Obstetrics and Gynecology and has presented and published extensively. His clinical focus is in the areas of antenatal fetal diagnosis and management of complex maternal medical complication. His research focus is in preterm labor and intrapartum management. The majority of his educational effort is devoted to the MFM fellowship, yet he also active in training residents in management of the high-risk antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patient.
