Biosketch

Dr. Faria is a DVM and has a M.Sc. in Veterinary Medicine, with a concentration in Animal Science.  He has 17 years of research experience working with several laboratory animal species, ranging from rodents to nonhuman primates. He has more than 7 years of experience in supporting and conducting pre-clinical research under Good Laboratory Practice (GLPs) guidelines. Research performed by Dr. Faria within UMSOM include cardiac medical devices and various medical countermeasures intended to mitigate the effects of acute radiation syndrome and the delayed effects of acute radiation exposure, including Neulasta® which were approved by the FDA.

Currently, at University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Translational Radiation Sciences (DTRS), he contributes to the development and use of nonhuman primate and minipig models for the acute and delayed radiation syndromes in the hematopoietic, gastrointestinal and pulmonary systems.
