Biosketch
Jose J Diaz, MD is Professor of Surgery, Vice Chair Quality and Safety, Department of Surgery, Chief of Acute Care Surgery and Program Director of the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship at the University of Maryland/R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Diaz graduated from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston TX. He completed his general surgery residency at Huron - Cleveland Clinic Foundation Health Systems in Cleveland Ohio. He subsequently completed his Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville Tennessee. Dr. Diaz started his academic career at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he became the Director of the Emergency General Surgery Service. He rose to the rank of Associate Professor. In 2011 Dr. Diaz was recruited to the University of Maryland/R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center to be the Chief of Acute Care Surgery.
Dr. Diaz is board certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He serves on the Quality, Safety and Performance Improvement Steering Committee, Medical Executive Committee, Executive Surgical Infection Committee to name a few. His current areas of research interest include complex abdominal wall reconstruction, Emergency General Surgery, Acute Care Surgery - Population Analysis. He has over 100 published in peer-reviewed articles, 15+ book chapters, and 3 books. He has given over 100 regional national and international invited talks.
Dr. Diaz is a recognized educator having received the Senior Faculty Teaching Award at his institution 3 times.
