Academic Title:

Post Doc Fellow

Primary Appointment:

Surgery

Biosketch

Shafquat Azim, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Surgical Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine under Dr. Valeria R Mas. In her present position, she is exploring kidney transplantation focusing on the mechanism of kidney transplant tolerance and the effect of ischemia-reperfusion-injury (IRI) on graft functioning via epigenetic modifications. She is using techniques like CRISPR and single cell/nucleus RNA-seq to study the cause and consequences of kidney damage.

Research/Clinical Keywords

Transplantation research, kidney transplantation, single-cell RNA sequencing, operational tolerance, cell-free biomarkers, CRISPR-Cas9 mediated-knockout/methylation/demethylation, DNA methylation
