About the Chairman
Dr. Pollak is the James Lawrence Kernan Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Chief of Orthopaedics for the University of Maryland Medical System. He is also Head of the Division of Prthopaedic Traumatology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Traumatology, and Director of the Shock Trauma Go team at R adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
Dr. Pollak was named one of Baltimore Magazine’s 2012 “Top Docs” and The Washington Post Magazine’s Super Doctors 2011, 2012, and 2013. He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and has special interests in trauma, nonunions, malunions, osteomyelitis, and sports-related injuries.
Dr. Pollak received his medical degree at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals of Cleveland, MetroHealth Medical Center, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. His fellowship in orthopaedic traumatology was completed at University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California.
Dr. Pollak currently serves as Treasurer of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Medical Director of the Baltimore County Fire Department, and Special Deputy US Marshal. His previous responsibilities include serving as Chair of the Board of Specialty Societies for the AAOS, President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and President of the Maryland Orthopaedic Association. He was appointed by Governor Ehrlich and served one term as a commissioner on the Maryland Health Care Commission.
