Our mission is to improve the care of older adults through expanding the geriatrics and palliative knowledge base by employing geriatrics and palliative principles when caring for diverse older persons and by supporting the integration of geriatrics concepts into the practice of medicine.
The University of Maryland’s long-standing history of diversity and inclusion offers an exceptional framework to identify and eliminate ageism and other forms of social and structural bias/discrimination given their impact on health, safety, and independence as we age. We are dedicated to building a united community of patients and clinician educators as well as researchers who develop and test innovative process improvements in care delivery, empowering patients and staff and training the next generation of healthcare leaders.
The strength of the educational program is the interdisciplinary collaboration provided by the professional staff of MD and PhD faculty, one-on-one mentorship by faculty, and the funding that is available for trainees from the GRECC, UM-OAIC, NORC and VA offices for academic affiliation.
